The Plant consisted of parallel gas processing trains which recovered propane, butane and C5+ as separate product steams from the natural gas feed.
A review of progress on the recommendations of an earlier Energy Assessment Report was based on monthly energy usage statistics and detailed plant operating data. The major elements in the plant energy usage were fuel firing, expander power recovery and the power required for gas compression.
Recommendations were made based on the forward view for plant throughput, which anticipated sustained operation at high rates, with increasing pressures to reduce CO2 emissions. The site had a significant shortcoming in its capability to monitor and characterise plant equipment. Recommendations included routine monitoring of oil quality, optimization of equipment operation, monitoring of the performance characteristics of key plant items, checking and correction of the basis used for routine performance monitoring, introduction of loss accounting for shortfall in energy performance, installation of additional instrumentation, and the development of cost monitoring as an operational optimisation tool.
