An Ongoing Project
JCD provided process design services to DRD Power Ltd, who are developing an Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) based demonstration unit for power generation from industrial low grade heat sources, under a project part funded by the Carbon Trust (grant value £0.25M).
Following an initial report for the client by JCD on potential working fluids, including their impact on cycle configuration and efficiency, JCD provided predicted system performance data and preliminary equipment sizing for a number of potential applications under consideration, and provided general process engineering support to the project to develop the design and definition of the unit. JCD produced the process engineering package for a 130 kW demonstration unit, which is currently under construction and is expected to be available for deployment early in 2011.
